Weather Siren Schedule and Criteria Change
Fire Chief Kraynek explained that, after reviewing the current schedule and
criteria for activating the City's severe weather sirens, he found that the City
of Manitowoc is the only community in the area that deviates from the
activation standards used by surrounding municipalities. Chief Kraynek
recommended aligning the City's siren activation criteria with those used
by Manitowoc County and neighboring communities. This change would
create consistency throughout the county, reduce public confusion, and
ensure residents receive uniform warnings during severe weather events.
He also recommended adopting Manitowoc County's schedule for routine
siren testing to further improve consistency.
Moved by Anderson, seconded by Cummings, that this Communication be
accepted and referred to Council. The motion carried by the following vote:
